Solar estimates depend heavily on inputs that vary enormously by location and household. Available roof area and its orientation, local irradiance, shading, your utility's rate structure and whether it offers net metering, current equipment pricing, and the incentives available in your state all move the result. A payback period in particular is sensitive to the electricity rate you assume and to whether incentives are modeled as an upfront reduction or a later credit — two defensible treatments that produce noticeably different answers.
If a result looks implausible, the useful version of that report names the calculator, lists what you entered, and states what you expected and why. A real quote from an installer, or an actual utility bill showing your rate and usage, is the strongest possible basis for a comparison. It lets us separate a genuine formula error from an assumption that simply does not fit your situation, and the second case is often a sign we should be clearer on the page about what the tool assumes.
State and utility incentive programs change on their own schedules, and a program that existed last year may have been capped, expired, or restructured. If you find an incentive described here that no longer matches current program rules, a note with a link to the administering agency's own page is the fastest route to a correction.
We are not an installer, an electrician, an energy auditor, or a utility. We cannot design a system for your roof, quote equipment or installation, assess your roof's structural condition, interpret your specific utility tariff, or advise on financing. A licensed installer who can inspect the property and pull your actual usage history is the right party for all of that. What we can help with is how our own numbers were produced and whether any of them are wrong.
